A Well Rounded Dog Is What You Get With Southern Black Mouth Curs
Dogs are valuable for many reasons, some provide great companionship, several are great protectors, others are rescue dogs, a few are great for farms, and still others are perfect for hunting. However, there is but one dog that can easily fit into one or all of these categories and those dogs are southern black mouth curs. Hunters, herding, protecting, and companionship are all natural places for this beautiful breed and it can be trained to be productive in any of these roles.
Southern black mouth curs are perfect for large families, especially if the family is active, because these dogs are very active themselves. They do wonderfully on farms because they have a lot of space to run around. What’s more, they can be trained to herd cattle such as cows and sheep, and are very loyal and protective of the place that they live and the people that they live with. However, if you have a fenced in piece of property, you will do well to place a fence in the eight-foot range as these agile dogs can jump up to six feet, making it necessary to build higher to protect them.
Training these dogs is somewhat easier than other breeds because they respond very well to tone of voice. What’s more, southern black mouth curs are loveable and want to receive praise and approval. They also respond well to an established order in a household and thrive when kept in their appropriate station, in other words, these are dogs that are not treated like a child, but like a protector. In addition, this breed does very well with children but not with other types of pets (cats, birds, etc.). In order to mix with other dogs, it should be involved socially from a puppy to accept them.
This breed of dog comes in a variety of colors; however, the most common colors are brindle, yellow and fawn, in a variety of shades in these ranges. For southern black mouth curs to be considered acceptable for show they must have a black mouth (hence the name). However, the lack of a black mouth does not mean that the dog will not do well for a home or a farm. The disposition of the dog does not change due to coloring.
Southern black mouth curs are the perfect dog for many situations; however, if you are not able to spend time with your dog every day exercising and playing with it, or you live in a small confined space, then you may want to consider a different breed of dog because this one is a social and active breed.
